No internet for two days...then someone spent the entire evening ... hogging it by uploading pictures..at which point I fell dead asleep!
So, still have miles and miles to catch you all up on where I am. We are currently at around the 600km mark. Depending on who you listen to, the hospitalero it´s actually even under! She says we have 592, my book says 604!
To begin...the feet are still holding up remarkably well. Blister on the left heel, and a small one on the little toe, but for the moment that´s about it. The rest of the body is holding up remarkably well too.
Companions along the road are as varied as the flowers! I´ve spent miles of smiles with Silvie, from the Ruhr area, Peter from NYC (originally Germany), Spencer from Kent, Rosalie from Australia, Ramon and Genvieve from France ( who´ve been at it since the beginning in Le Puy in April!) There is also Petra from South Africa, a couple of folks from Denmark, and raft loads of people from Germany.
To say the plant life, and farming here is varied is a polite understatement. This is such a help too, as we can distract ourselves from our pain and tiredness by regularly pointing out some new plant. So far the farms and gardens have included, olives (lots of ém) peaches, almonds, asparagus, peas, peppers, onions, grapes, more grapes and oh yes...a few more acres of grapes as you round the corner! Of course we are now in Rioja so that is rather to be expected, since that is, as they say, a house speciality.
The wild plants are just as varied and probably more beatiful, simply because of the surprising variety. There are delicate pale pink, single layered wild roses and white ones, sometimes intertwined. Around the next corner, honeysuckle in a shade of pink that is extrordinary. There are forgetmenots, and tiny purple orchids, followed by buttercups of the deepest orangey yellow I have ever seen. Of course wé´ve also found wild thyme, sage and fennel growing along the way too. I truly can´t wait to be able to upload all the pics.
