** Meseta! **

Windy, very very windy! Wearing, damn near everything...it was cold.  But still smiling...by the end of the day...not so much!! 35km before I would sleep!
Leaving Sahagun, racing the coming of the light....fear living in my heart...Alburgue Anxiety has begun!
The Meseta goes on, and on and on!
On the outskirts of Sahagun if memory serves...The Roman road.
Little House on the Praire, Spanish style!
One of the Alburgues in El Burgo de Raniero...and a perfect example of Alburgue Anxiety...it was still fairly early..and my bag is second in line!  Of course I'd gotten wiser, and was sitting having una Cervesa!
And then there are those moments.  The ones where you think you might be halucinating....but no, those really are Teepees.... Rosalie and Arlene stayed the night here...I wandered on another 4km as it was too early, even for me.
But then, maybe I shoulda stayed!!  A little Marley, a little beer, some shots....Nahhhhh!
For my money, one of my all time favorites, a hidden jewel, Mansilla Municipal Alburgue!
With a jewel of a Hospitilero...who took such excellent care of all her flock!  Even the one she said she hated...ME!  'Cause, she said, she never knew which language to speak to me in cause I kept switching...depending on whom I was talking too!  Fine thing coming from someone fluent in at least four languages!!  Laura...love you!
Oh shit...she's coming for me now!
Or was it my 35 km blisters!! This is a day later...and starting to heal already...again, Laura I love you for tending to the "family of blisters living down here" as she laughingly said...breaking them with a gentleness...only a Veterinarian could have!  Which, she is!!

  1. Yep. I loved Mansilla albergue as well. Loved all the geraniums on the courtyard walls, so lovingly tended. Interesting town too with its old walls- just a bit hot that day to go wandering too heartily.
Yes, I got some Meseta cold as well. Some bitterly cold days. Others find it hard to believe.

  3. Yes, I was there too. Found that last stretch into Mansilla tough after a long day. Oh, those endlessly straight and flat Meseta paths and roadways ...
